CAF awards Super Eagles 3 points, 3 goals against Libya

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has announced that the Super Eagles have been awarded the three points and three goals following a botched 2025 AFCON qualifier against Libya.

CAF disclosed this on Saturday, noting that Libya breached Article 31 of the AFCON regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF disciplinary code.

Libya will also have to pay a fine of $50,000 within 60 days of this notification.

With this verdict by CAF Disciplinary Board, the Super Eagles have consolidated their qualifying group.

They now have 10 points from four matches, four points clear of nearest rivals Benin.

A draw with Benin in Abidjan next month will qualify them to the 2025 AFCON to be hosted by Morocco in December 2025.

Rwanda are third in the qualifying section with five points, while bottom team Libya with a point after four matches have been eliminated from the competition.

The full official text of the verdict:

  1. The Libya Football Federation is found to have breached Article 31 of the AfricanCup of Nations Regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
  2. The match No.87 Libya v. Nigeria of the CAF African Cup of Nations Qualifiers 2025 (scheduled to be played on 15 October 2024 in Benghazi) is declared lost by forfeit by Libya (by a score of 3-0).

     3 .The Libya Football Federation is ordered            to pay a fine of USD 50,000.

  1. The fine is to be paid within 60 days of notification of the present decision.
  2. All other and further motions or prayers for relief are dismissed.
