Your 2027 ambition, a disservice to Oyo people—APC tells Makinde
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a critique against Governor Seyi Makinde, accusing him of prioritizing his 2027 political ambitions over the immediate needs of Oyo State’s citizens.
This was noted in a statement signed on Sunday, by the National Publicity Secretary of APC Felix Morka.
At a recent gathering in Ibadan, the Capital City of Oyo State, Governor Makinde had accused APC of being responsible for the struggles of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties.
He boasted of a strategy to collaborate with Osun State’s governor to bolster the interests of the PDP in the southwest, asserting that the APC’s influence would be negligible in their efforts.
Reacting to this, Morka said: “While our democracy affords Makinde the liberty to pursue his political aspirations, engaging in reckless executive flippancy, at the expense of the job he was elected to do, is a disservice to the good people of Oyo State.
“If Makinde knew how best to keep APC’s influence at bay, exactly why has he not executed that strategy in ‘protection’ of his party nationally?” questioned Morka, further criticizing Makinde for his lack of accountability and a coherent plan to stabilize his party.
Morka likened the Oyo State Governor’s situation to that of a “bad workman that blames his tools,” urging Makinde and his fellow PDP leaders to take responsibility for their party’s challenges rather than deflect blame onto the APC.
“They should quit pointing fingers at the APC and take full responsibility for their disgraceful failure to handle the party’s implosion and decay,” he remarked.
In response to Makinde’s critique of the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Morka highlighted the administration’s recent economic reforms. He noted the country’s trade surplus, improved debt service ratios, and increased foreign reserves as evidence of meaningful progress. “Our country is on the cusp of prosperity and enduring greatness,” he noted.
The APC’s publicity chief did not shy away from condemning Makinde’s governance record, asserting that his administration has failed to address the local issues faced by Oyo residents. “Instead of prioritizing the needs of Oyo people, he has chosen to divert his attention and squander the state’s resources in pursuit of unhinged 2027 ambition,” Morka stated.
The APC therefore urged Nigerians to remain supportive of President Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing their belief that continued reforms will ultimately benefit all citizens and diminish the relevance of Makinde’s political aspirations.
“Makinde cannot even speak for the people of Oyo State regarding their future electoral choices,” Morka added, warning that the transformative promises of the current administration would render Makinde’s ambitions ineffective.
