Pioneering Change: Stakeholders Call for Educational Renaissance at ASDIR Annual Event

The 4th Edition of the Annual Public Lecture Series and the Inaugural Dinner of the Pan African Academic Achievers Award held on Thursday at the Nicon Luxury Hotels, was a spirited gathering centered on the theme “Educational Renaissance: The Future of Work and Economic Evolutions in Africa.”

Amb. Prof. Tunji John Asaolu, CEO of the African School of Diplomacy and International Relations (ASDIR), in his welcome address called for educational transformation.

“As we gather today for the 4th Edition of the Annual Public Lecture Series, we continue this tradition of intellectual inquiry and engagement. The theme signifies a progressive step towards shaping a brighter future for the continent,” he affirmed.

Asaolu emphasized the significance of aligning education with Africa’s evolving economic landscape, stating that the ongoing renaissance in education is crucial in leveraging Africa’s potential in an increasingly globalized economy.

” The 2024 African Union theme,focusing on educating and skilling Africa for the 21st century, aligns with the United Nations’ vision for the future. It underscores the critical need to modernize education systems, foster innovation, and equip individuals with the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the evolving economic landscape.

“The linkages between education, work, and economic evolution are undeniable. A robust educational system lays the foundation for a skilled workforce capable of driving economic growth, promoting innovation, and fostering sustainable development.

“By embracing educational renaissance, Africa can harness the power of knowledge, adapt to technological advancements, and seize emerging opportunities in the global economy.

“Our collective efforts in advancing education and skills development are instrumental in shaping a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable future for Africa,” Asaolu said

The award ceremony, which acknowledged outstanding contributions of African academics and institutions, highlighted the vital role education plays in nation-building.

“Through our numerous initiatives, the ASDIR will continue to create platforms to encourage academic excellence within our institutions,” Asaolu asserted, reinforcing the commitment to nurturing future leaders.

Addressing journalists at the event, George Omoraro, founder and CEO of Rage Next LTD and one of the awardees, expressed optimism about Africa’s potential in the digital age.

“When you talk about the future of work in our development of young minds, you will see a lot of innovation and collaborations going on currently,” he noted, highlighting the collaborative spirit among Africa’s youth.

He added, “This program will help to harness the potentials and possibilities out of this continent.”

Chief Obina Nwaka, representing the Minister of Youth Development, noted the empowerment of Nigerian youths supported by government initiatives.

“With the support of Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian youths are making waves through initiatives geared at ensuring they take advantage of educational opportunities,” he stated.

Nwaka also emphasized the importance of practical education in today’s world filled with rapid technological advancements.

He commented, “Most of the educational institutions that the National University Commission is granting license are mostly practical inclined, and this is what the government is focusing on to ensure that other institutions focus more on practicals.”

The atmosphere was charged with a collective resolve to prioritize education as a driver for economic growth and workforce resilience across Africa.

Other honorary PhD recipients include: Engr Meshach Maichibi, Mrs Mary Ishaya Afan (Mni), Amb Olubunmi Mary Gbadewole, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Kabiru, Prince Oluseyi Oladapo Abiodun, H.E Roll Stephanie Ngomat, Hon Joseph Longshin Bukar, Adedeji Adekunle Adetuberu, Lizzy Anjorin, AVM Paul Irumheson and others.
