Bomb Explosion Hits Abuja School, One Feared Dead, Four Others Injured

An explosion at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyi community of Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has resulted in the death of one student and left four others critically injured.

The tragic incident occurred around noon on Monday, January 6, 2025, sending shockwaves through the community, located approximately 42 kilometers from Abuja’s city centre

Emergency response teams, including the police bomb disposal squad, quickly arrived at the scene, and the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

According to reports, the deceased student may have been carrying a substance suspected to be an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) when it detonated.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), John Gabaya has confirmed the explosion at Islamiyyah school, Kuchibiyu community in the council.

Speaking via telephone on Monday, he said the explosion claimed the life of a student with four others injured.

Gabaya explained that the proprietor of the school brought some children from Katsina to commence teaching and learning.

According to him, prior to the explosion, he had reported the activities of the school to the Divisional Police Officer for investigation.

He said the area has been thrown into pandemonium following the explosion.

Gabaya said police operatives and a bomb squad have since been deployed in the scene of the explosion.

“Yes, there was an explosion in an Islamiyyah school today, one of the students was killed with four others injured.

“I don’t know the owner of the school but he brought in some children from Katsina state to the place in Kuchibiyu, I have reported his activities to the Divisional Police officer for investigation”

While police and security officials have yet to comment on the incident, efforts to reach FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful, with calls and messages remaining unanswered.
