Tolu Bankole Condoles With APC Leadership on The Passing of Adewunmi Onanuga

Member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee, Aare Tolu Bankole has expressed deep condolences to the party’s leadership and the nation at large following the untimely passing of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives.

In a heartfelt tribute conveyed via a statement personally signed by him, Aare Bankole said; “It is with a heavy heart that I convey my deepest condolences to you and the entire leadership of our great party on the untimely demise of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga.”

He emphasized the significant impact that Onanuga had on both the APC and the broader legislative landscape, noting

her commitment to the party’s principles and good governance,

“Rt. Hon. Onanuga was a steadfast and loyal member of the APC who exemplified the highest standards of dedication and service to the party and the nation. Her roles, both as a legislator and as a party stalwart, demonstrated her deep commitment to advancing the APC’s principles and fostering good governance.

“As Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, she played a critical role in maintaining legislative harmony, ensuring effective coordination, and promoting discipline during parliamentary proceedings. Her wealth of experience, intellect, and courage earned her the admiration of her colleagues and left an indelible mark on the House,” Bankole noted.

Reflecting on the loss felt within the APC family and the nation, Bankole further said, Onanuga was not only a robust political figure but also a passionate advocate for social development and women’s rights. “Her passion for public service was evident in her unwavering advocacy for women, social development, and the well-being of her constituents in Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency. She was a beacon of excellence and a source of inspiration for all who knew her.

“The APC family, and indeed the nation, has lost a remarkable leader and a true patriot whose legacy will continue to inspire generations of Nigerians and party members.”

He therefore extended prayers for Onanuga’s family, stating, “May the Almighty grant her family, the APC, the National Assembly, and all who mourn this loss the fortitude to bear it. We also pray for the repose of her soul and eternal rest in the bosom of the Lord”

National Periscope earlier reported that the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives passed away at the age of 60 after a brief illness.

The lawmaker died earlier on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, following a brief illness.

Rep Onanuga, born on December 2, 1965, was first elected to the House in 2019 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). During her tenure, she served as Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development in the 9th Assembly, where she championed policies aimed at empowering women and enhancing social welfare.

Re-elected in 2023, she was appointed Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Assembly.
