The Federal Republic of Nigeria and Bahrain have officially established bilateral relations, as confirmed by the recent visit of Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, to Manama, Bahrain.

During his visit, Tuggar engaged in high-level discussions with Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, aiming to bolster diplomatic ties and enhance cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, and oil and gas.

The ministers highlighted key areas of collaboration, focusing on attracting foreign direct investment from Bahrain into Nigeria and exploring new trade opportunities.

They emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships in the oil and gas sectors, particularly through onshore projects and the development of Nigeria’s 8th train LNG facility.

Additionally, discussions included the training of Nigerian diplomats and potential collaborations in multilateral forums, reflecting a comprehensive approach to international engagement.

At the conclusion of their discussions, Ambassador Tuggar and Dr. Al Zayani signed a Joint Communiqué, formalizing the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Bahrain.

This historic agreement signals a new era of cooperation and mutual benefit for both nations, aligning with Bahrain’s broader strategy to enhance international partnerships.

Dr. Al Zayani recently chaired the third meeting of the national committee focused on implementing the outcomes of the Bahrain Summit Initiatives, further underscoring the kingdom’s commitment to fostering global collaboration and pursuing initiatives that strengthen its international standing.
