Pa Ayo Adebanjo, a revered Chieftain of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, has passed away at the age of 96.

The elder statesman, lawyer, and staunch advocate for good governance breathed his last on Friday, February 14, 2025, at his Lekki residence in Lagos State.

His family confirmed his passing in a statement issued to the press, describing his final moments as peaceful.

Adebanjo, a former organising secretary of the Action Group and a vocal proponent of restructuring in Nigeria, dedicated his life to the pursuit of truth, justice, and an equitable society.

His unwavering belief in a progressive Nigeria shaped his activism until his final days.

Adebanjo is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, as well as children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The family expressed deep sorrow over his passing, noting that his legacy of principled leadership and advocacy would be remembered for generations.

Plans are underway for a befitting funeral, with consultations ongoing among his associates and supporters across Nigeria and beyond.

A condolence register has been opened at his Lekki home and his country residence in Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
