Delta APC SEC Rejects Petition Against Morka, Accuses State Chairman of Antiparty Activities
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja
The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from a petition calling for the removal of the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Barr. Felix Morka.
The lengthy petition, initiated by the state chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, has been met with strong disapproval from the majority of the State Executive Committee (SEC).
In a statement addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Umar Ganduje, signed by the majority members of the State Executive Committee (SEC) of APC, Delta State Chapter and other stakeholders in the state, the SEC expressed its disappointment with Sobotie’s actions, stating that the petition was submitted without the approval of the committee.
“The petition was authored unilaterally by Sobotie and does not represent the views of the State Executive Committee. It is grossly misconceived and lacks any reasonable basis for calling for Morka’s removal,” the statement read.
The SEC highlighted two main allegations made by Sobotie against Morka. The first claim was that Morka issued a press statement stating that the National Working Committee (NWC) did not approve the creation of a Delta State APC Leadership Council. The state committee fully supported Morka’s position, stating that the council is not recognized under the party’s constitution and was never discussed or approved by the SEC.
The second allegation claimed that Morka declared Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as the leader of the party during a television interview. However, the SEC stated, “We have searched for any such report and found none. This allegation is baseless and lacks factual support.”
The committee further criticized Sobotie for his actions, suggesting that he is serving interests outside of the party.
“It is disheartening that Sobotie would seek to smear Barr. Morka, a fine and highly distinguished Deltan who is serving the nation so admirably, with these contrived and baseless allegations. As the state chapter, we take immense pride in his accomplishments and unreservedly support his continued service as NPS,” SEC noted.
They also condemned Sobotie’s petition as an attempt to undermine Morka’s role and the party’s unity.
“We fear that Sobotie has been influenced by external political interests to weaken the office of the NPS,” they added.
The statement also called for the National Working Committee to dismiss Sobotie’s petition as frivolous and to take disciplinary action against him for violating party protocols.
“By releasing the petition publicly, Sobotie has undermined the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms,” the SEC noted.
They therefore expressed a lack of confidence in Sobotie’s leadership, stating that he has failed to convene meetings and has operated in a dictatorial manner. “His leadership has been an unmitigated disaster, creating a vacuum that has allowed unauthorized elements to undermine the party’s integrity,” they said.
The committee also urged the National Working Committee to take immediate action to suspend Sobotie to protect the party’s reputation and ensure unity within the Delta APC.
“We trust that the NWC will act swiftly to address this matter in the interest of peace and unity within the party,” they stated.
