JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

As the world prepares to commemorate the International Day of the Boy Child in 2025, the Great Achievers Initiative for Youth and Community Development (GAIYD) has announced an exciting opportunity for young minds across Nigeria.
The organization invites senior secondary school students to participate in its annual essay competition, aimed at fostering dialogue and reflection on the challenges faced by boys today.
Speaking with our correspondent, the Founder of GAIYD, Dr. Hillary Akpua, shared insights about the competition. He emphasized the importance of the chosen topic: “Where are the Mentors? The Missing Role Models for Boys’ Growth and Development.”
He stated, “We believe that this topic will inspire our youth to think critically about the role of mentorship in their lives. The essays should not exceed 500 words, and we are eager to see the innovative ideas that emerge from this initiative.”
Regarding the prizes, Dr. Akpua elaborated, “We are excited to offer substantial scholarships to the top three participants: the first position will receive a scholarship worth 150,000 Naira, the second position will be awarded 100,000 Naira, and the third position will receive 50,000 Naira. Additionally, we will provide consolation prizes for runners-up and sponsored gifts for all participants.”
He outlined the terms and conditions for participation, stating, “All essays must be submitted before the given deadline and must include a bio-data sheet with the writer’s name, age, class, and sex. Participants must be senior secondary school students, and submissions should be made in hard copy to our office and in soft copy via our official website.”
To be eligible for the competition, participants must be male, follow GAIYD on all social media platforms, and adhere to all competition guidelines. Interested candidates can register through the following link: [2025 Essay Registration](https://gaiyd.org/2025-essay-registration/).
