FCT APC Protests Against Alleged Infiltration by PDP Members

Group of protesters with placards at the APC National Secretariat on Monday, kicking against alleged infiltration of APC by PDP.

A group from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC), led a protest to the National headquarters of the party on Monday against what it described as the Infiltration of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the party.

The group, under the aegis of the APC Consolidation Group was led by its Spokesperson, Idris Jibril.

The protesters arrived at the party’s Secretariat around 1:00pm and were seeing with placards with various inscriptions like, “We say no to PDP agents in the APC FCT elections,” “person wey vote for PDP convention last week no fit lead APC today,” “ na our sweat build APC, no give tickets to yahoo-yahoo politicians,” we say no to Aduda backdoor politicians,” and so on.

In a petition addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the group demanded immediate disqualification of Danjuma Shekwolo and Christopher Maikalangu.

Jibril noted that the petition is borne out of deep concern over the “dangerous infiltration of the FCT APC by individuals who neither reflect the values of the party nor meet the constitutional requirements for nomination, yet are being positioned as candidates in a brazen attempt to hijack our internal processes.”

He emphasized that the move violates article 20.1 (III) of the APC Constitution.

“According to Article 20.1(iii) of the APC Constitution: “No person shall be eligible to contest for any elective position or be nominated as a candidate unless he/she has been a financial member of the Party for at least three (3) months and has fulfilled all party requirements.”

In flagrant violation of this provision: Mr. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, an aspirant for the Kuje Area Council Chairmanship, was a delegate at the PDP Zonal Convention held on Saturday, 24th May 2025. Barely 48 hours later, he obtained the APC nomination and expression of interest forms. This is not only a direct affront to Article 20.1(iii), but also exposes a clear case of opportunistic carpet-crossing and deceit,” the Spokesperson lamented.

Also condemning the candidature of Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, Jibril said that the actions, if left unchecked, will set a dangerous precedent.

“Mr. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, a sitting PDP Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), who is also reportedly contesting under the  APC platform for another tenure, has not met the mandatory three-month membership requirement. His sudden entry into our party is strategically calculated and violates both the spirit and the letter of our constitution.

“These actions, if unchecked, will set a dangerous precedent — one that allows political turncoats and saboteurs to undermine our platform, frustrate long-serving loyal members, and turn APC into a safe haven for rejected opposition elements,” Jibril stated.

The protest also addressed the alleged activities of former PDP Senate Minority Whip, Senator Philip Aduda, who the group accused of undermining APC unity in the FCT.

“Senator Aduda is leveraging the name of the Honourable Minister of the FCT, His Excellency Nyesom Wike, to intimidate party executives and impose his loyalists,” Jibril claimed, warning that such actions could lead to political instability within the party.

The group expressed concerns over potential violent outcomes, including a breakdown of law and order in Kuje and Bwari, and called for immediate action to prevent further destabilization of the APC structure.

“We cannot afford to reward betrayal and alienate our true base in the name of desperate electoral calculations,” Jibril asserted.

The APC Consolidation Group made several demands, including the disqualification of Shekwolo and Maikalangu, a clear directive dissociating the APC from Senator Aduda, and a formal investigation into the growing complaints of infiltration within the FCT APC.

Also, a member of the Tinubu/Shetima Campaign Council from Kuje Area Council, Yusuf Dabo, while addressing newsmen emphasized that the party must remain true to its members and not allow external influences to dictate its direction.

“We want the party to respect Article 9 of the Constitution of FCT, which calls for free, fair, and credible party primaries,” Dabo said.
