Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has decried the alleged unlawful demolition of his younger brother’s property in Ikeja, Lagos.

In a statement posted on his verified X account on Saturday, Obi described the incident as a “blatant act of trespass and a direct assault on the rule of law.”

According to Obi, the property, owned by his brother’s company, Next Foods Limited, was demolished following a court order obtained by an alleged trespasser. Obi stated, “The legal counsel to Next Foods Limited, acting on the instruction of the company’s CEO, my younger brother, Ndibe Obi, has taken the matter to court over the Ikeja property that was unlawfully demolished after a trespasser misled the court into granting an unjust possession order.”

He further alleged that the same individual is now attempting to erect a fence on the property to divide the land, an action he described as “a calculated move to further complicate the ongoing legal proceedings.”

Obi emphasized his trust in the judicial system, stating, “We trust that justice will not only be done but be seen to be done swiftly, decisively, and in full accordance with the law.”

The Lagos State Government has denied involvement in the demolition and has ordered an investigation into the matter.

Legal proceedings initiated by Ndibe Obi are ongoing, with the court expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the demolition and the subsequent actions taken on the property.
