15 Lives Lost in Fresh Attack at Kwallajiya Village Sokoto State

ESTHER SALIFU, Abuja

In a tragic escalation of violence in Sokoto State, suspected members of the Lakurawa group launched a brutal assault on Kwallajiya village in Tangaza Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 residents.

The attack, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, has intensified concerns over the persistent insecurity plaguing the region.

Eyewitnesses report that the assailants, believed to be affiliated with the Lakurawa faction, infiltrated Kwallajiya village, opening fire indiscriminately. The victims were laid to rest the same evening in accordance with Islamic rites.

Residents express deep frustration over the recurring attacks and allege that some community members may be colluding with the bandits.

A local source stated “We strongly believe that such atrocities are often aided by information the bandits receive from some residents of the villages”.
The community is urging increased cooperation with security agencies to curb the menace.

The Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Council, Isa Bashir Kalanjeni, visited the village and attended the mass burial of the victims.

However, attempts to reach the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters and the state police spokesperson for comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
