ESTHER SALIFU , Abuja

The Kano State Minister of Education, Dr. Ali Makoda, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the death of two students of Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, Hamza Tofawa and Umar Dungurawa.

The order was contained in a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Education, Balarabe Kiru.

The victims have lost their lives after reportedly being attacked by senior students with metal objects known locally as “Gwale-Gwale,” as punishment for their offense

According to the statement, Dr. Makoda vowed that justice would be served.

Speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Bashir Muhammad, he warned students against taking the law into their own hands.

Dr. Makoda emphasized the gravity of the situation and urged students to respect proper disciplinary procedures.
“You should avoid taking law into your hands but rather make sure you report any matter of concern to the school authority for appropriate action,” Makoda advised during his visit to the school.

He extended the state’s condolences to the bereaved families, saying, “On behalf of the Kano State Government, Ministry of Education and good people of Kano State, we extend our condolences to the family of the deceased and pray for Almighty Allah to grant their souls Jannatul Firdaus.”

Also speaking, Director of Secondary Schools at the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, Abbas Abdullahi, expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

He stressed that disciplinary matters should be left to school authorities.

“Kano State Government has promised to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind the tragic incident,” Abdullahi added.
