INEC Announces 811 Voter Registration Centres, Confirms 151 Party Applications

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, revealing that 811 centres across the country will be activated for the process, which will run from August 2025 to August 2026.

INEC also disclosed that it has received a total of 151 letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the Commission said the exercise will begin with online pre-registration on Monday, 18th August 2025, while in-person registration at INEC offices will commence on Monday, 25th August 2025.

“The exercise will hold in 811 centres made up of our 774 Local Government, 37 State and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) offices nationwide from 9.00am to 3.00pm (Monday to Friday) every week, with the exception of national public holidays,” Olumekun stated.

He added that for ease of access, INEC will launch a CVR Live Locator Tool to help citizens locate the nearest registration centres across the country.

“The locator will go live a day to the commencement of the CVR on 17th August 2025 and can be accessed at the following address: https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator,” he said.

According to the Commissioner, a 38-page document containing the addresses of all the in-person registration centres has been uploaded to INEC’s website and other official platforms.

The Commission has also released dedicated phone lines for each state as Help Desks for further inquiries by prospective voters.

“The procedure for both the online and in-person registrations remains the same as was the case in 2022,” he said. “Detailed information on the process, including video clips, will once again be released by the Commission next week.”

Update on Political Party Registration

Olumekun also gave an update on the status of political party registration requests.

“Since the 4th update released on 23rd July 2025, the Commission has received eight more letters of intent from associations seeking registration as political parties. This brings the number received so far to 151,” he revealed.

He noted that details of the most recent submissions, including proposed names, acronyms, logos, addresses, and interim leaderships, have been made available online.

“Meanwhile, having created the portal for party registration, the Commission has commenced the shortlisting of the associations that meet the requirements to proceed to the application stage.

“Details will be released immediately after the 16 bye-elections in 12 States scheduled for Saturday, 16th August 2025,” he said.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and citizen engagement throughout the process.

“Once again, we reassure Nigerians that the Commission shall continue to keep citizens informed on all its activities,” the statement concluded.
