INEC Presents Certificates of Return to 7 Bye-Election Winners

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday presented Certificates of Return to seven winners of the National Assembly bye-elections conducted on August 16, 2025.

The brief ceremony held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja saw National Commissioners of INEC hand over the certificates to the newly elected lawmakers, who will now represent their constituencies in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

In the South East, National Commissioner Mr. Kenneth Ukeagu presented the certificate to Mr. Nwachukwu Emmanuel Chibuzor of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who emerged winner of the Anambra South Senatorial District bye-election.

Professor Rhoda Gumus, another National Commissioner, presented Certificates of Return to two winners from Edo State: Senator-elect Ikpea Joseph Igiagbe of Edo Central and Mrs. Igbinedion Omosede Gabriella, elected to represent Ovia Southwest in the House of Representatives. Both are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

From the North West, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru presented the certificate to Mukhtar Rabiu Garki, who clinched victory in the Bubura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, also on the APC platform.

In Kaduna State, Mallam Kudu Haruna handed the certificate to Joseph Bagudu, elected to represent Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency under the APC.

The South West also had two lawmakers-elect receiving their certificates. Professor Kunle Ajayi presented them to Elegbeji Adesola Yetunde Ayoola, who won the Ikene/Shagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency seat in Ogun State, and Oyekunle Fola Sunday, who emerged victorious in Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Oyo State. Both are of the APC.

INEC added that winners of the State Constituency bye-elections will collect their Certificates of Return on Friday, August 22, 2025, at their respective state offices from the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).
