APC Hails Rivers LG Polls, Dismisses Atiku’s Allegations

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed the conduct of last Saturday’s local government elections in Rivers State, while dismissing allegations of foul play made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement signed on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers State for what it described as their “overwhelming support,” stressing that the outcome of the polls reflected the people’s confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“This victory is yet another unmistakable indication of strong confidence of the people in the APC-led President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and its flagship Renewed Hope Agenda to continue to deliver transformative and people-oriented governance at all levels in our country,” Morka said.

The party commended its leaders and members in Rivers State for their assiduous work, and lauded the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful, transparent and hitch-free election.

While urging the newly elected council officials to work harder in delivering meaningful governance outcomes for the common good of all, the APC turned its focus on Atiku, describing his reaction to the polls as “incendiary and highly irresponsible.”

“Atiku’s tirade is no more than a smokescreen meant to distract the public from another miserable no-show record of his African Democratic Congress (ADC), and an attempt to stoke tension and strife over the Rivers local government election,” Morka stated.

The party further charged Rivers residents to “reject Atiku’s incitement to strife and instability as an unwise counsel of a forlorn serial presidential contender.”

Reaffirming its appreciation, the APC assured that it would continue to work with the people of Rivers to “build a stronger, more united state that works for the good of all.”
