The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Professor Charles Anosike, has been honoured among Nigeria’s Top 100 Environmental and Sustainability Professionals by Environment Africa Magazine.
Anosike, who was represented at the event by the Director of Applied Meteorological Services, Mrs. Glory Onyegbule, also received a Certificate of Recognition as Nigeria’s Top ECO-Hero 2025 for his outstanding contributions to climate resilience and sustainable development.
The award celebrates individuals driving meaningful environmental impact across Nigeria through innovation, leadership, and advocacy for a greener future.
Reacting to the recognition, Prof. Anosike said it reflects NiMet’s renewed commitment to delivering actionable climate services that empower communities and strengthen national resilience.
“At NiMet, we are transforming weather and climate information into tools that save lives and improve livelihoods,” he said. “Our focus is on making climate data more inclusive, accessible, and practical for farmers, policymakers, and citizens.”
Under his leadership, NiMet has upgraded its early warning systems to provide real-time, impact-based forecasts that help mitigate the effects of floods, droughts, and other extreme weather events.
Anosike has also championed digital climate advisory services and AI-powered forecasting tools to deliver tailored insights to smallholder farmers—while ensuring forecasts are translated into local languages to reach even the most remote communities.
He continues to build partnerships with universities, development agencies, and the private sector to expand weather infrastructure, promote sustainable urban planning, and train a new generation of climate scientists.
His recognition as one of Nigeria’s leading environmental professionals, observers say, is a testament to practical leadership grounded in science, innovation, and collaboration.
