
Ododo Mourns Former Adavi Chairman, Describes Him Pillar of Community Development

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Ozigi Asema Maiyaki, the first elected chairman of Adavi Local Government Area, who passed away in the early hours of Wednesday at his residence in Ogaminana.
In a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Hon. Ismaila Isah, the governor said he received the news of Asema’s passing with “profound shock.” He described the late chairman; popularly known as Adayi Ozigi Asema as a devoted community leader whose influence was instrumental to political stability and grassroots development in Adavi.
Ododo recalled his consultations with the late chairman during the build-up to the 2023 governorship election, noting that Asema’s guidance and support contributed significantly to the All Progressives Congress’ strong showing in the area.
“Adayi Ozigi Asema was among the first political leaders I visited for consultation in the build-up to the 2023 governorship election,” the governor said. “His wise counsel and unwavering support were part of the processes that led us to victory, especially in Adavi. His absence will be deeply felt, even as we thank Almighty Allah for his leadership and service to our people.”
The governor also extolled the legacy of the pioneer council chairman, describing him as a pacesetter whose tenure laid the foundation for infrastructural development and human empowerment in the local government.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and urged his family, political associates and the entire Adavi community to take solace in Asema’s enduring contributions to public service.
The late Ozigi Asema Maiyaki served as the first executive chairman of Adavi Local Government under the platform of the National Republican Convention (NRC) from 1991 to 1993. He remained actively involved in community and political affairs until his death at the age of 74.
