Kogi Govt Reaffirms Support for Armed Forces, Fallen Heroes’ Families on Remembrance Day

The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, military veterans and the families of fallen heroes as the state joined the rest of the country to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo gave the assurance on Thursday during a solemn ceremony held in Lokoja, describing the occasion as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by men and women who laid down their lives in defence of Nigeria’s peace, unity and territorial integrity.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Joel Salifu, Governor Ododo said the annual remembrance was more than a ceremonial tradition, noting that it served as a sacred moment to honour gallant soldiers who left the comfort of their homes to embrace uncertainty and danger in service to the nation.
According to him, the courage, patriotism and selflessness displayed by members of the Armed Forces, both living and departed, remain the foundation upon which the country’s stability and sovereignty are built.
The governor assured families of fallen heroes of the state government’s continued support, stressing that their loved ones’ sacrifices would never be forgotten and that government would continue to stand by them in recognition of their loss.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his leadership and unwavering commitment to strengthening national security and supporting the welfare of military personnel.
Governor Ododo further praised the Chief of Army Staff and other service chiefs for their strategic efforts and dedication in tackling insecurity across the country, expressing confidence that sustained collaboration among security agencies would further enhance peace and stability.
The ceremony featured wreath-laying and prayers in honour of fallen soldiers, as government officials, military personnel and other stakeholders paid tribute to the heroes who paid the supreme price in service to the nation.
