Galaxy Backbone Grows Official Government Email to Over 150000 Active Accounts

Galaxy Backbone has confirmed that Nigeria now has more than 150,000 active official government email accounts across federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), marking a major milestone in the country’s digital governance drive.

In a statement on Friday, the Head of Corporate Communications, Chidi Okpala, highlighted the growth and ongoing expansion of the Federal Government’s secure email platform, widely known as GOVMAIL. The platform is designed to provide centralized, auditable, and professional communication for civil servants across all MDAs.

“GOVMAIL is a secure and centralized official email platform established to facilitate efficient communication across all arms of government,” the statement read.

The platform, launched by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, is part of a broader digital transformation initiative aimed at modernizing public service operations and reducing reliance on paper-based correspondence and fragmented external email services.

Galaxy Backbone noted that in late 2025, the Head of the Civil Service, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, reported over 100,000 GOVMAIL accounts had been created for civil servants as part of an expanding paperless policy. The number has now surged to over 150,000 active accounts.

According to the company, the accounts operate within a protected government domain hosted on secure local infrastructure, reinforced with enterprise-grade cybersecurity measures. The platform also supports centralized identity management, audit-trail visibility, and compliance with national data protection standards, strengthening overall digital governance.

Beyond email, Galaxy Backbone manages critical infrastructure including Tier III and Tier IV Data Centres, a National Fibre Backbone, a Security Operations Centre (SOC), and a Network Operations Centre (NOC) to power essential digital services across government agencies.

The ICT provider stressed that it is actively working with MDAs to ensure all eligible government workers are onboarded to GOVMAIL without delay.

“These coordinated efforts aim to equip public servants with the digital tools necessary for responsive, efficient, and secure inter-agency communication,” the statement added.

Galaxy Backbone reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with government stakeholders to sustain and expand the progress achieved in digital service delivery, transparency, and operational efficiency.
