FG Warns Nigerians in Iran, Gulf States Over Rising Middle East Tensions

The Federal Government has advised Nigerians residing in Iran and neighbouring Gulf states to heighten their security awareness amid escalating military tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said the government is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation in the region.
According to the ministry, the advisory follows reported military actions involving Israel and the United States against targets in Iran, as well as retaliatory strikes by Iran on locations in some Gulf countries. The developments, it noted, have significantly raised tensions and sparked concerns about further escalation.
“Given the heightened state of tension and the potential for further escalations, the Ministry is issuing the following advisory to all Nigerian citizens residing in or currently visiting Iran and neighbouring Gulf countries,” the statement read.
The government urged Nigerians in the affected areas to remain alert and security-conscious at all times, especially in locations that could become flashpoints.
“All Nigerians in Iran and affected Gulf countries are advised to remain extremely vigilant and conscious of their surroundings at all times. Avoid areas known to be strategic, military, or government installations, as these could be potential flashpoints,” the ministry stated.
Citizens were also advised to limit non-essential travel until the security situation stabilises. The statement warned against attending large gatherings or public demonstrations, which could expose individuals to unnecessary risks.
The ministry further directed Nigerians to strictly comply with safety directives issued by authorities in their host countries. “Remember that cooperation with local law enforcement is paramount for safety,” it added.
To provide support, Nigerian diplomatic missions in the region have been placed on alert. The Nigerian Embassy in Tehran and missions in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia have been instructed to offer consular assistance and maintain open communication channels with Nigerians who may require help.
The government also cautioned against the spread of misinformation, encouraging citizens to rely on credible news sources and official communication for updates.
Reaffirming its commitment to citizens abroad, the ministry stressed that “the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens abroad remains the top priority of the Federal Government.”
It added that the situation would continue to be closely monitored, with further advisories to be issued as necessary.
