UNICAL Suspends Nine Students for Exam Malpractice, Forged Results

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended nine students over offences bordering on examination malpractice and the submission of forged academic results.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the institution’s Registrar, Mr. Chukwuka Icha.
He said the disciplinary action was approved at the university’s 252nd Senate meeting after deliberations on reports submitted by the ad hoc Senate Committee on Examination Malpractice and the Senate Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
According to the registrar, five of the affected students were found guilty of engaging in examination malpractice, while four others were sanctioned for presenting falsified results to the university authorities.
He stated that after considering the recommendations of the committees, the management resolved to suspend the students for two academic sessions, beginning from the 2024/2025 academic year.
A breakdown of the affected students shows that five are from the Department of Pharmacy. They include Akwuba Enestina and Udom Iboro, both in 300 level; Nwankwo Daniel, a 200-level student; as well as Ore Israel and Chisom Ejafa, who are in 500 level.
Others sanctioned are Lazarus Ebogo of the Department of Home Economics; Ele Godwin from the Department of Zoology; Ofem Patrick of the Department of Science Laboratory Technology; and Makailu Pamilo of the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies.
The university management also directed heads of departments, deans of the affected faculties and the Acting Chief Security Officer to ensure strict enforcement of the suspension.
The action, the statement noted, underscores the institution’s resolve to uphold academic integrity and maintain discipline within the university community.
