Ex-Flying Eagles Captain Jailed Six Months Over Non-Consensual Sexual Act

Daniel Daga

Former captain of Nigeria’s U-20 national team, Daniel Daga, has been sentenced to six months in prison by a Norwegian court after being found guilty of committing a non-consensual sexual act.

According to reports from Norwegian media outlet TV2, the judgment against the 19-year-old midfielder was delivered on Tuesday. The court also ordered him to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner in legal costs.

Daga, who currently plays for Norwegian club Molde FK, had denied wrongdoing during the trial.

His lawyer, Astri Bolstad, expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict, insisting that the sexual encounter between the player and the woman involved was consensual. She disclosed that the defence team would appeal the ruling.

Despite the conviction, Daga’s club described the situation as a difficult one for everyone involved.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Molde said the player would be temporarily excluded from the team’s match-day squad while the legal process continues.

“This is a very difficult case for everyone involved,” the club said.

“Molde Football Club has a responsibility as an employer to care for our employees responsibly, while also respecting the seriousness of the case and the burden it places on all affected parties.

“In light of the situation and the ongoing legal process, Molde has decided that the player will not be part of the match-day squad until further notice.”

Before moving to Norway in 2025, Daga played in Nigeria’s domestic league, featuring for Enyimba FC after earlier spells with FC One Rocket and Dakkada FC.

Since joining Molde, the midfielder has made 15 appearances and scored three goals for the club.

Meanwhile, another Nigerian international footballer, Ademola Lookman, who plays for Atlético Madrid and the Nigeria national football team, has recently been accused of sexual assault by a Spanish model.

The alleged incident reportedly occurred during a private meeting between the parties, although there has been no official confirmation of formal charges or an investigation by Spanish authorities.
