ADC Files Suit to Stop Kingibe from Parading as Party Member

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to restrain Senator Ireti Kingibe from presenting herself as a member of the party.
The legal action comes just 48 hours after Kingibe was indefinitely suspended by the Wuse Ward Executive Committee of the ADC.
In the originating summons filed by the party’s lawyer, Maxwell Opara, the ADC asked the court to declare that the Wuse Ward Executive Committee has the authority under the party constitution to discipline and suspend members within its jurisdiction.
The suit also seeks confirmation that Kingibe’s suspension remains valid and in effect.
The plaintiffs in the case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/539/2026, are Okezuo Godfrey Kanayo, Chairman of ADC in Wuse Ward, and Isaiah Ojonugwa Samuel, the ward secretary. They filed the suit on behalf of themselves and the ward committee.
Among the reliefs sought, the party wants the court to affirm that Kingibe cannot lawfully act or claim membership in the ADC while the suspension is in place.
The suit also asks the court to direct the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ADC not to recognise Kingibe as a member at any level during the suspension.
The plaintiffs further requested validation of the Wuse Ward Executive Committee’s decision to suspend the senator, citing Sections 6(6)(B) and 251 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Article 16 of the ADC constitution, and relevant provisions of the Federal High Court Civil Procedure Rules, 2019.
As of Thursday, the case had not yet been assigned to a judge. The development adds another chapter to the ongoing internal dispute involving the FCT senator within the ADC.
