FRSC Enforces Truck Restrictions Along Kugbo Road During Rush Hours
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps has begun enforcing restrictions on the movement of articulated vehicles along Kugbo Road during peak traffic hours as part of efforts to reduce congestion and road crashes.
The enforcement, under a special operation tagged Operation Safe Kugbo, is targeted at controlling the activities of heavy-duty trucks on the busy AYA–Nyanya–Kugbo axis.
In a statement signed by the Corps Commander and Acting Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, the Corps said the move followed a recent directive by the Corps Marshal after a critical assessment of frequent crashes on the route.
“The ongoing enforcement drive is a direct outcome of that intervention, reflecting the Corps’ commitment to translating strategic assessments into impactful actions,” the statement said.
Kalu explained that the operation is backed by relevant traffic regulations and is in line with the Corps’ strategy to create safer roads through preventive measures.
She noted that restricting trucks during rush hours is expected to ease traffic flow and reduce the risks associated with heavy vehicles operating at peak periods.
On the first day of the exercise, enforcement teams led by the Unit Commander, RS7.13 Nyanya, CRC WF Luka, were deployed to the area.
The team, comprising officers and marshals supported by patrol vehicles and motorbikes, successfully restricted 89 articulated vehicles from operating during designated hours.
“The operation was conducted seamlessly, with full compliance recorded from motorists and stakeholders,” Kalu said, commending drivers and transport operators for their cooperation.
She added that the Corps would sustain the enforcement as part of broader efforts to safeguard lives and property on Nigerian roads.
“The Corps urges all road users, particularly operators of heavy-duty vehicles, to continue to comply with traffic regulations, as sustained enforcement will remain critical to ensuring safer and more efficient movement,” she said.
The FRSC said the operation forms part of ongoing measures to address traffic challenges and improve road safety within the Federal Capital Territory.
