Fresh Security Fears as Explosion Rocks Kwara Community

Residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State were thrown into panic on Monday following a roadside explosion suspected to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED).
The blast, which occurred along a road leading into the community, reportedly went off as a moving vehicle passed over the device, raising fresh concerns over security in the area.
Confirming the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, said the explosion claimed the life of a male occupant in the vehicle.
“The device detonated as the vehicle drove over it on Monday morning,” he said, adding that the incident happened a short distance from Woro community.
According to him, a woman and her child who were also in the vehicle were caught in the explosion. While the woman sustained injuries and has been taken to a medical facility where she is receiving treatment, the child escaped without harm.
The incident has heightened anxiety among residents, many of whom expressed fears over the growing insecurity in parts of the state.
Also speaking, the Special Assistant on Media to the Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, ZulQharnain Shero Musa, confirmed that the explosion resulted in casualties, although the exact number remains unclear.
“There was an explosion around Woro this morning which claimed lives, but the full details are still being verified,” he said.
Preliminary findings, according to local authorities, suggest that the explosive device may have been planted by suspected insurgents operating in the area.
Security agencies are expected to intensify surveillance and investigations to track down those behind the attack, even as residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
