Power Minister Apologises as Nigerians Grapple with Electricity Shortages

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has publicly apologised to Nigerians over the ongoing electricity disruptions, assuring citizens that efforts are underway to restore stable power supply nationwide.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Adelabu acknowledged the hardships caused by the irregular power supply, particularly during the current dry season, which has seen soaring temperatures affecting households, businesses, schools, and industries.

“I want to apologise to Nigerians for this temporary issue that is causing hardship, especially during this dry season where there is so much heat everywhere and where businesses, schools and industries are being affected,” Adelabu said.

The Minister explained that several factors beyond government control have contributed to the power interruptions, but stressed that authorities are working round the clock to restore normalcy.

“It is not our wish to find ourselves in this situation, but some factors are actually beyond our control. However, we are not relenting. We are working on it 24/7 to make sure we return to the trajectory we achieved in 2025,” he added, referencing last year’s improved electricity supply.

Adelabu reassured Nigerians that the current power challenges are temporary and promised that conditions would stabilise in the coming weeks.

“In 2025, you commended us, praised us for a job well done. If we were able to provide such a service then, this is 2026 and we are willing to do even more and do better. I can assure Nigerians that in the next few weeks all these issues will be over,” he said.

The apology comes amid growing public frustration over erratic power supply, with citizens calling for swift government action to prevent further disruptions that impact daily life and economic activity.
