FRSC Recovers Car Stolen 11 Years Ago in Ebonyi
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered a Toyota Camry reported stolen since 2015, in a breakthrough recorded in Ebonyi State.
The recovery, which happened 11 years after the vehicle was stolen, followed a routine verification at the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) desk in the state.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, the discovery was made on March 24, 2026, when officials of the Motor Licensing Authority presented the vehicle for registration.
During the process, the NVIS desk officer flagged inconsistencies in the vehicle’s records. Further checks showed that the car originally belonged to one Adeka Emmanuel Akoji, who confirmed it was stolen from him in Benue State on August 13, 2015.
The FRSC immediately alerted the Nigeria Police Force, leading to a joint operation.
Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Abakaliki later recovered the vehicle on March 27 at about 1:50 p.m.
Findings showed that the car, a Toyota Camry, had been re-registered with a new number plate in an attempt to hide its identity, after initially bearing the registration number MKD659AG.
The FRSC said the recovery highlights the effectiveness of the NVIS platform in tracking and identifying stolen vehicles across the country.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended officers involved in the operation and praised the collaboration with the police.
“FRSC will continue to rely on technology and intelligence to tackle vehicle-related crimes,” Mohammed said.
Motorists were also advised to always verify vehicle documents through the NVIS platform before purchase or registration, as enforcement efforts are being strengthened nationwide.
