ICPC Grants El-Rufai Temporary Release After Mother’s Death

Former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has been released from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on temporary bail.
His release is to allow him attend the burial of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who was reported to have died in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday.
A close aide to the former governor said the decision was taken on compassionate grounds following the family’s loss.
His son, Bashir El-Rufai, also confirmed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he announced that his father had been freed from detention.
“My beloved great legend of a father (@elrufai) is being released from his unlawful and illegal detention,” he wrote, while thanking supporters for standing by the family.
Nasir El-Rufai has been in custody since February 18 over allegations linked to financial misconduct and related offences.
The anti-graft agency is yet to release an official statement detailing the conditions attached to his temporary bail or the next line of action in the case.
