Zulum Fires Commissioners, Dissolves Executive Council

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the dissolution of the Borno State Executive Council, bringing the tenure of all commissioners in the state to an abrupt end.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, who explained that the move was aimed at creating a level playing field for council members interested in contesting in the forthcoming general elections.

According to the statement, the governor directed all affected commissioners to hand over the administration of their ministries to permanent secretaries no later than April 3, 2026.

The development is seen as part of early political realignments ahead of the next election cycle, with some members of the dissolved council expected to declare their ambitions in the coming weeks.

Despite the sweeping action, Governor Zulum commended the outgoing officials for their service, noting that their contributions had supported ongoing efforts to rebuild and develop the state.

He expressed appreciation for their commitment and dedication to governance, particularly in a period marked by reconstruction and recovery initiatives across Borno State.
