Ododo Orders Evacuation of Kogi Students from UniJos Over Insecurity

Usman Ododo, Governor of Kogi State

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has ordered the immediate evacuation of students from Kogi State studying at the University of Jos following rising insecurity in parts of Plateau State.

The directive comes amid renewed violence in communities around Jos, which has disrupted academic activities and prompted authorities to ask students to vacate hostels and campuses over safety concerns.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, the governor said the move was a precautionary step to safeguard Kogi indigenes studying in the area.

According to him, students are among the most vulnerable during crises, particularly those living off-campus or in locations with limited security presence.

“The decision was taken as a proactive measure to ensure the safety of our students. Their welfare remains a top priority of this administration,” the statement read.

To facilitate the evacuation, the governor deployed his Special Adviser on Youth and Students Matters, Oladele Nihi, alongside a government delegation to Jos to coordinate the process.

The team is expected to oversee the safe and orderly movement of students back to Kogi State, with transportation arrangements concluded in collaboration with relevant security agencies.

Governor Ododo also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies for their ongoing efforts to restore peace in Plateau State.

He expressed confidence that those responsible for the recent attacks would be brought to justice, while urging students to remain calm and cooperate fully with officials handling the evacuation.

The governor further reassured parents and guardians that the government was closely monitoring the situation and would take additional steps where necessary to protect Kogi citizens.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of indigenes, both within and outside the state.
