Easter: APC Chairman Yilwatda Tasks Nigerians on Unity, Patriotism
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has urged Nigerians to embrace unity, patriotism, and faith as Christians across the country celebrate Easter.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, Yilwatda described Easter as a defining moment in the Christian faith, symbolising sacrifice, redemption, and victory over adversity.
He noted that beyond the celebrations, the season offers an opportunity for sober reflection on values such as resilience, humility, forgiveness, and hope, especially in the face of the nation’s current challenges.
“Easter teaches us that sacrifice is the pathway to glory, that suffering is never the end of the story, and that with faith in God, hope can rise again even in difficult times,” he said.
The APC chairman said the message of Easter remains particularly relevant to Nigeria’s situation, calling on citizens to remain steadfast and committed to the collective good of the nation. He urged Christians to demonstrate their faith through acts of compassion, unity, and service to humanity.
Expressing concern over insecurity in parts of the country, Yilwatda sympathised with victims of violence, banditry, insurgency, and kidnapping, describing their experiences as a shared national pain.
He called for stronger collaboration among citizens, security agencies, and government institutions to restore peace and stability.
“At a time like this, we must not allow fear, division, or despair to define us as a people. Rather, we must stand together in unity and resolve, trusting God and supporting all lawful efforts aimed at restoring peace, order, and safety in our communities,” he stated.
Yilwatda also acknowledged ongoing efforts by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address insecurity and stabilise the country, noting that reforms and strategic interventions are underway to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
He further called on Nigerians to use the Easter period to pray for the country, its leaders, and security personnel, stressing the need for divine guidance and national renewal.
“This is a time for prayer, reflection, and renewed hope. As Christians celebrate the resurrection of Christ, we must also pray for the renewal of our nation; for healing where there is pain, peace where there is conflict, and hope where there is despair,” he added.
The APC chairman expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its present challenges through unity, responsible leadership, and collective commitment, urging citizens to remain law-abiding and dedicated to building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
“May the message of Easter renew our faith, strengthen our unity, and inspire a brighter future for our dear country,” he said.
