Soldiers Fall in Line of Duty as Operation HADIN KAI Repels Terrorist Attack

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

A number of gallant soldiers paid the supreme price in the line of duty on Thursday, 9 April 2026, as troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade in Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack at their headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State.

The attackers attempted to breach the military installation in the early hours of the morning, but were decisively forced to retreat by disciplined and well-coordinated troops.

According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, the encounter demonstrates the high level of readiness, professionalism, and operational capability of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“The swift and effective response of our troops shows the resilience and preparedness of Operation HADIN KAI in safeguarding strategic locations and maintaining pressure on terrorist elements in the North-East,” he said.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, commended the bravery of the fallen soldiers.

“Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the defence of the nation will forever remain a source of pride and inspiration to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and all Nigerians,” he stated.

In line with military protocol, the Defence Headquarters appealed to the public and media to allow the Armed Forces to formally notify the next of kin before the release of additional details

Major General Onoja emphasized, “We urge citizens to disregard misinformation, sensational reports, and unverified content circulating on social media, as these undermine ongoing operations and national security efforts.”

Further clearance and exploitation operations are ongoing in the area to track fleeing insurgents and deny them opportunities to regroup. The public is encouraged to continue supporting the military with timely and credible information that can aid ongoing counterterrorism efforts.

“The dedication, discipline, and courage of our personnel in such a challenging operational environment reaffirm our commitment to restoring lasting peace in the North-East and across Nigeria,” Major General Onoja added.

The successful defence of the Benisheikh installation, despite the loss of lives, shows the Armed Forces’ determination to protect national sovereignty and ensure the safety of citizens in conflict-affected areas.
