Florence Ajimobi Denies Alleged Role in Impeachment Plot Against Makinde
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

Former First Lady of Oyo State and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Austria, Florence Ajimobi, has denied allegations linking her to an alleged plot to influence members of the Oyo State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the claims as false, misleading, and politically motivated.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by her media office, Ajimobi said the allegations were “entirely false, baseless, and a deliberate act of disinformation” aimed at damaging her reputation and misleading the public.
The claims followed earlier reactions from some lawmakers in the Oyo State House of Assembly, including Hon. Gbenga Oyekola and the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi, who both denied involvement in any impeachment plot or receipt of inducements from political actors.
In her response, Ajimobi firmly rejected suggestions that she held or participated in any meeting in Lagos or elsewhere where plans to destabilise the Oyo State government were allegedly discussed.
“At no time did I convene, attend, or participate in any such meeting with any individual or group for the purpose of discussing impeachment or destabilising the Oyo State Government,” she stated.
She maintained that the attempt to associate her with the allegation was part of a coordinated political smear campaign designed to tarnish her image, particularly within Oyo State and beyond.
“Activities of the People’s Democratic Party in Oyo State are of no concern to me. Linking me to such a plot could only be borne out of mischief and deliberate reverse propaganda to malign my reputation,” she added.
Ajimobi stressed that she has never engaged in any activity capable of undermining the peace, stability, or democratic order of Oyo State, reaffirming her commitment to democratic values and peaceful engagement in public life.
She warned that the spread of false information could heighten unnecessary political tension in the state and insisted that such allegations would be addressed through appropriate legal channels if not retracted.
The former First Lady further stated that she remains focused on her humanitarian work and national service, adding that she would not be distracted by what she described as “unfounded and mischievous claims.”
