INEC Closes CVR Phase II With 3.75m Registrations, Opens Voter Verification Window
JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has wrapped up the second phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, recording a total of 3,748,704 completed registrations as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather pace.
The figure, contained in the commission’s week 14 update, reflects a combination of online pre-registrations and in-person completions at centres across the country, underscoring sustained public interest in the process.
A breakdown of the data shows that 2,259,288 Nigerians completed their registration through the online portal, while 1,489,416 finalised the process physically at designated centres. INEC noted, however, that the figures remain provisional pending further verification.
With the registration phase now concluded, the commission has shifted attention to the next critical stage—claims and objections—aimed at sanitising the voter register.
INEC announced that the display of the register will take place nationwide from April 29 to May 5, 2026, allowing registrants to verify their details and flag any irregularities.
The commission urged citizens who participated in the just-concluded exercise to take advantage of the window to confirm the accuracy of their information and assist in identifying ineligible entries.
According to INEC, the process is essential for detecting issues such as duplicate registrations, names of deceased persons, and non-citizens that may have found their way into the register.
The CVR exercise, conducted in phases, began with its first round on August 18, 2025, and ended on December 10, 2025. The second phase commenced on January 5, 2026, and formally closed on April 17, 2026.
INEC said the timetable for the third phase would be announced in due course, reiterating that a credible voter register remains fundamental to delivering free, fair, and transparent elections in Nigeria.
