Police Begin Disciplinary Review of 167 Senior Officers

The Nigeria Police Force has commenced proceedings of its Force Disciplinary Committee to examine allegations of misconduct involving 167 senior officers.

The exercise, which is ongoing at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, is aimed at addressing breaches of professional conduct and reinforcing internal discipline within the Force.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the committee is reviewing pending cases involving officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above.

The statement noted that the committee serves as a critical internal mechanism for ensuring accountability, adding that all cases will be handled in line with established laws and regulations.

It explained that the process allows for a thorough and transparent review of each matter, with recommendations to be forwarded to the Police Service Commission for final action where necessary.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reiterated the Force’s commitment to discipline and professionalism, stressing that officers found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate sanctions.

“No officer found culpable of misconduct will be shielded from due process,” the statement quoted the IGP as saying.

He added that the disciplinary exercise forms part of wider reforms targeted at strengthening internal control systems, promoting ethical standards, and restoring public trust in the police.

The Force also reaffirmed its resolve to uphold accountability and ensure that officers conduct themselves in line with professional values.
