A member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, has obtained the expression of interest and nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, formally signalling the start of the president’s bid for a second term in office.

The forms were presented to Faleke at the APC national secretariat in Abuja by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu.

Faleke, who is also the founder of the Tinubu Support Groups, collected the documents on behalf of the president after the payment of N100 million required for the expression of interest and nomination forms.

The development marks the official entry of Tinubu into the race for the 2027 presidential election under the APC platform, as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the polls.

According to the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the presidential and National Assembly elections have been scheduled for January 16, 2027.

The governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections are expected to follow on February 6, 2027.

INEC also outlined that party primaries, including the resolution of pre-election disputes, will take place between April 23 and May 30, 2026.

Campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections are slated to begin on August 19, while campaigns for governorship and state assembly polls will commence on September 9.

With the acquisition of the nomination forms, attention is expected to shift to the APC’s internal processes, including its primaries, as the party prepares to field its candidate for the next general election.

The move is also likely to trigger increased political activity within and outside the ruling party as other aspirants and opposition parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 contest.
