

Eight students of the Faculty of Engineering of Nasarawa State University have been abducted by gunmen in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The students were reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday night when armed men invaded an off-campus lodge in Anguwar Ninzo area of the community.
The attack triggered panic among residents and members of the university community as security agencies launched efforts to rescue the victims.
A source in the institution confirmed the incident, saying the abducted persons were engineering students residing in the area.
“Yes, it is true that eight students of the Faculty of Engineering in Gudi have been kidnapped, but I’m yet to get an official directive to speak to you on that,” the source said.
The Nasarawa State Police Command also confirmed the incident, although it said six students and one visitor had so far been formally identified among the victims.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the command received a distress call around 9 p.m. on May 6 informing security operatives that armed hoodlums had stormed the students’ residence and whisked away the occupants.
He said, “On 6th May, 2026, at about 21:00 hours, the command received a distress call reporting that a group of armed hoodlums stormed a students’ lodge located at Anguwar Ninzo, Gudi, on the outskirts of the town. During the incident, some students were reportedly abducted and taken to an unknown destination.”
Nansel added that security agencies had already commenced joint operations to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers.
“So far, six victims have been identified, all of whom are students of the Faculty of Engineering, Gudi Campus of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, alongside one other victim who was reportedly visiting one of the students at the time of the incident,” he stated.
According to the police spokesman, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, visited the scene for an assessment and reassured residents and students that efforts were underway to ensure the victims returned safely.
He disclosed that the Area Commander in Akwanga had been redeployed to coordinate rescue operations, while a combined team of police personnel, DSS operatives, military officers, NSCDC officials and local vigilantes had been mobilised for the operation.
“The command urges members of the public to remain calm, vigilant and security conscious, while appealing to anyone with useful information that could aid the ongoing operation to promptly report to the nearest police station or any other security agency,” Nansel added.
