The All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its House of Representatives primary election for the 2027 general elections to Saturday, May 16, 2026.
The ruling party, however, said the dates earlier fixed for its Senate, State House of Assembly, governorship and presidential primaries remain unchanged.
The adjustment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
According to the party, the House of Representatives primary, initially scheduled for an earlier date, will now hold on Saturday.
“The All Progressives Congress announces the postponement of the House of Representatives Primary Election for the 2027 General Elections to Saturday, 16th May, 2026,” the statement read.
The APC also released an updated timetable for the remaining primary elections ahead of the 2027 polls.
Under the revised schedule, the Senate primary election will hold on Monday, May 18, while the State Houses of Assembly primaries are slated for Wednesday, May 20.
The governorship primary election is expected to take place on Thursday, May 21, while the party’s presidential primary has been fixed for Saturday, May 23.
The party did not state reasons for the adjustment of the House of Representatives primary date.
Political observers, however, believe the postponement may be connected to ongoing consultations and preparations within the party ahead of the nationwide exercise.
The APC had in recent weeks intensified activities surrounding its internal electoral process as aspirants across various offices continue consultations and mobilisation ahead of the primaries.
The forthcoming exercises are expected to shape the party’s lineup for the 2027 general elections.
