Arsenal F.C. have been crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years after rivals Manchester City F.C. were held to a 1-1 draw by AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

The result confirmed Arsenal as winners with one game left in the season, handing manager Mikel Arteta his first Premier League title since taking charge of the North London side.

Arsenal went into Tuesday’s fixtures knowing a Manchester City slip would seal the title after their narrow 1-0 victory over Burnley F.C. on Monday.

City, who needed all three points to keep the title race alive, failed to deliver at the Vitality Stadium as Bournemouth frustrated the defending champions for most of the contest.

The hosts took the lead in the first half through Eli Junior Kroupi, leaving Arsenal supporters anxiously watching events unfold from homes, pubs and viewing centres across London and beyond.

Although Erling Haaland struck late in stoppage time to rescue a point for City, the draw was not enough to deny Arsenal the crown.

The outcome capped a remarkable campaign for Arsenal, who had led the table for most of the season after falling short in each of the previous three title races.

Arteta’s side now hold an unassailable four-point lead at the top of the table heading into their final match against Crystal Palace F.C., which is expected to turn into a title celebration.

The triumph marks Arsenal’s 14th English league title, placing the club behind only Manchester United F.C. and Liverpool F.C., who have each won the title 20 times.

Speaking before Tuesday’s decisive fixture, Arteta had jokingly described himself as Bournemouth’s “biggest fan” for the evening as his side waited for help from the South Coast club.

That wish eventually came through under Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, a close associate of Arteta, whose side produced the result that finally ended Arsenal’s long wait for league glory.

The title success is expected to spark celebrations among Arsenal supporters around the world, with fans already gathering around the Emirates Stadium shortly after the final whistle in Bournemouth.
