Galaxy Backbone Limited has unveiled a new blueprint aimed at shaping Nigeria’s digital future, deepening public sector efficiency, and strengthening the country’s position in the global digital economy.

The Smart Digital Economy Roadmap is designed to accelerate digital transformation across government institutions while expanding innovation, connectivity, and technology-driven service delivery nationwide.

The initiative was formally presented in Abuja during activities marking the organisation’s 20th anniversary, where officials outlined a renewed focus on scaling up Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and improving its utilisation.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Backbone, Ibrahim Adeyanju, said the roadmap represents a strategic shift from infrastructure deployment to full-scale digital innovation and optimisation.

According to him, the organisation is entering a new phase where emphasis will no longer be solely on building systems but on maximising their impact across governance, business operations, and citizen engagement.

“The next chapter of Galaxy Backbone will not simply be about building infrastructure; it will be about maximising infrastructure. It will be about enabling innovation through smart digital solutions, expanding digital access, and supporting sub-nationals, businesses and institutions,” Adeyanju said.

He explained that the new blueprint builds on two decades of sustained investment in shared national ICT infrastructure aimed at reducing duplication, improving efficiency, and enhancing coordination across government agencies.

Over the years, Galaxy Backbone has evolved into a central digital infrastructure provider for the federal government, offering connectivity, cloud services, and secure platforms for ministries, departments, agencies, and state governments.

Adeyanju disclosed that the organisation’s fibre optic network now spans nearly 30 states, serving as a backbone for digital governance and public service delivery across the country.

He also highlighted the importance of the organisation’s Tier III and Tier IV data centres, which he described as critical national assets that ensure secure and reliable hosting of government digital systems.

According to him, platforms such as the 1Government Cloud, GovMail, and other collaboration tools have improved communication and operational efficiency within the public sector.

“These platforms have enabled government institutions to work more efficiently, collaborate better, and deliver services faster to citizens,” he noted.

Adeyanju stressed that the value of Galaxy Backbone should not be measured by physical infrastructure alone, but by its real impact on governance and public service delivery.

“The true value of Galaxy Backbone is not measured by kilometres of fibre, servers, or data centres. It is measured by impact; faster services, improved collaboration, stronger cybersecurity, and better service delivery to citizens,” he said.

He added that the new roadmap is also forward-looking, positioning Nigeria to embrace emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, automation, data analytics, and advanced cybersecurity systems.

Adeyanju said Nigeria must decide whether to remain a passive consumer of global technology or become an active contributor to its development, adding that Galaxy Backbone has chosen the latter.

“We choose to lead. We choose to innovate. We choose to collaborate. And we choose to build,” he declared.

He reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s digital economy agenda, noting that the blueprint represents a major step toward a more connected, efficient, and inclusive digital ecosystem.

According to him, the next phase of the organisation’s work will focus on unlocking the full value of existing infrastructure to drive innovation, inclusion, and economic growth across sectors.

He further explained that while the first 20 years of Galaxy Backbone were focused on building foundational systems, the next phase will prioritise scaling impact and delivering tangible benefits to citizens and businesses.

“The first twenty years were about building the foundation. The next twenty years will be about unlocking the full value of that foundation,” he said.

The organisation expressed optimism that the new digital blueprint will support Nigeria’s long-term ambition of becoming a fully digital economy powered by innovation, secure infrastructure, and efficient public service delivery.
