The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to criminal justice reforms and closer collaboration with stakeholders in the legal profession to strengthen the administration of justice in the country.

Disu made the commitment while receiving a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), led by its President, Afam Osigwe, during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The NBA delegation included Abdul Mohammed, First Vice President Sabastine Anya, General Secretary Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara, Chief of Staff Barbara Omosun, Salamatu Sidi, Etaba Agbor and Isaac Aduloju.

During the visit, the NBA leadership commended the police chief for ongoing efforts aimed at improving professionalism, accountability and service delivery within the Force.

The association also reiterated its readiness to support initiatives that promote the rule of law, justice sector reforms and effective policing, while extending an invitation to the Nigeria Police Force to participate in its forthcoming Annual General Conference.

Speaking at the meeting, the Inspector-General stressed the importance of sustained cooperation between the police and members of the legal profession, noting that stronger collaboration would help enhance the effectiveness of Nigeria’s criminal justice system.

He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to constitutional policing, respect for fundamental rights and adherence to due process in the discharge of its responsibilities.

According to the police chief, effective engagement among key actors in the justice sector remains essential to promoting accountability, protecting citizens’ rights and improving access to justice.

He noted that the police would continue to work with the NBA and other stakeholders to strengthen public confidence in the justice system and ensure that policing practices align with democratic principles and the rule of law.

“The Force remains committed to constitutional policing, respect for fundamental rights and adherence to due process,” Disu said, adding that collaboration among justice sector institutions was critical to improving accountability and service delivery.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss areas of mutual interest, including reforms aimed at enhancing professionalism within the police and improving the overall effectiveness of criminal justice administration.

The Nigeria Police Force said it remains focused on raising operational standards, strengthening public trust and delivering policing services in line with established laws and international best practices.
