The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria, Oluwasegun Alebiosu, received a parcel containing two live rounds of ammunition at his residence in Ikoyi, prompting an ongoing investigation by security agencies.
Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja on recent operations and security developments across the state.
According to the police chief, the incident occurred on May 7 and was reported to the command shortly after the package was opened.
Fatai described the matter as serious and said detectives had launched an investigation to uncover those responsible for sending the parcel.
“There is a case like that we are presently investigating, and it happened precisely on the 7th of May, 2026,” he said.
“The MD of First Bank reported that he received a parcel that was collected for him by his guard in his house, and after opening the parcel, he saw two live rounds of ammunition. The ammunition is precisely 7.2mm ammunition. The matter aroused serious concern, and we immediately commenced investigations.”
The commissioner said no arrest had been made in connection with the incident but assured that all leads were being pursued.
He noted that although the bank executive had expressed suspicions about certain individuals, investigators would rely on evidence in determining those behind the act.
“Although the complainant mentioned some people he thinks were behind the act, that is his own suspicion anyway. I can assure you that our investigations will unravel those who are truly behind the matter,” Fatai added.
The police boss urged members of the public to avoid speculation while the investigation continues, stressing that no individual or organisation had been linked to the incident.
He said all claims and allegations connected to the case would be thoroughly examined before any conclusions are reached.
Sources familiar with the matter said the package was delivered by a dispatch rider and received by security personnel at Alebiosu’s residence before it was handed to him because it was addressed directly to him and marked confidential.
The sources said the parcel contained an envelope with two live bullets and no accompanying letter, message or identifying information that could reveal the sender.
The discovery reportedly triggered immediate security concerns within the bank, leading management to notify the police and other relevant security agencies.
The incident is said to have occurred at a time when the bank was implementing internal reforms and pursuing the recovery of outstanding debts from borrowers.
While some sources suggested the package could have been intended as a form of intimidation, investigators have yet to establish the motive behind the delivery.
The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring that anyone found responsible is brought to justice.
