The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for the immediate removal of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linking him to the activities of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an agency the Presidency has denied exists.

The opposition party said the allegations surrounding the purported agency raised serious questions about transparency, accountability and governance, urging President Bola Tinubu to suspend the Chief of Staff to allow for an independent investigation.

In a statement signed on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC described the allegations as grave and deserving of a thorough probe by relevant anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies.

The party’s position followed allegations made by Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the alleged PFIPC, that the agency received budgetary allocations in the 2026 Appropriation Act despite the Presidency’s insistence that no such agency exists.

According to the NDC, it is troubling that the alleged agency reportedly opened a domiciliary account, a Pounds Sterling account and a Treasury Single Account (TSA) with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The party questioned how an agency described as non-existent could allegedly complete the documentation required to open such high-level financial accounts.

“The Presidency owes Nigerians an urgent clarification on this matter,” the statement said.

The NDC also expressed concern over claims that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation approved 314 staff positions for the purported agency.

It wondered how such administrative approvals could have been granted without the knowledge of the Presidency and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The party further cited allegations by Adeyemi that he secured his appointment through the Chief of Staff after allegedly agreeing to pay N600 million, out of which N400 million was reportedly paid through intermediaries, while an outstanding balance of N200 million allegedly remained unpaid.

It also referred to claims that the Chief of Staff demanded 48 per cent of the agency’s proposed take-off grant, estimated at N27.4 billion, an allegation which Adeyemi reportedly said he rejected before the dispute became public.

“These are not mere allegations; they point to a disturbing pattern of institutionalised corruption, including the alleged sale of appointments to the highest bidders,” the NDC stated.

The party argued that the allegations, if established, would indicate serious abuses within the machinery of government and called for immediate action to preserve public confidence in the administration.

The NDC also linked the controversy to the reported death of Babatunde Tanimola, whom it described as an intermediary between Adeyemi and the Chief of Staff.

According to the party, Tanimola reportedly died in a hotel fire in Utako, Abuja, on October 22, 2025, a day after a petition involving the matter was received by the police.

The statement further referenced Adeyemi’s claim that he had survived multiple assassination attempts, including an alleged attack along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway on September 7, 2025.

Consequently, the party demanded the immediate removal of Gbajabiamila from office to ensure what it described as an impartial investigation free from interference.

It also called on President Tinubu to constitute an independent investigative panel to examine the operations of the alleged PFIPC, including its reported budgetary allocations, financial accounts, staff approvals and related transactions.

The NDC urged investigators to probe the circumstances surrounding Tanimola’s death and the alleged attempts on Adeyemi’s life.

In addition, it called for forensic examination of all official documents signed by the Chief of Staff since assuming office and urged officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to cooperate fully with investigators.

The party also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigeria Police Force to commence a full-scale investigation into the allegations.

It maintained that Nigerians deserved a transparent inquiry rather than official denials, insisting that anyone found culpable, irrespective of status, should be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The allegations remain unproven. As of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency nor the Chief of Staff had publicly responded to the fresh demands made by the NDC.
