The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has presented a brand-new Toyota Camry to Mrs. Rachael Folake Alamu, the principal of Community High School, Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, in recognition of her courage after surviving 56 days in kidnappers’ captivity.
Alamu was among the teachers abducted alongside pupils during the May attack on Community High School, Esiele, and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area.
The principal regained her freedom recently alongside the pupils and other teachers after weeks in captivity that kept families and residents of the state in anxiety.
Presenting the vehicle, Alli praised Alamu’s resilience and dedication, saying she displayed remarkable courage while protecting the abducted pupils throughout the traumatic ordeal.
He described the donation as a token of appreciation for her bravery and a demonstration of solidarity with victims of insecurity.
According to the APC governorship candidate, the gesture is intended to support the principal’s recovery and encourage her as she returns to her professional duties.
He said teachers who continue to serve in difficult and insecure environments deserve recognition and support for their commitment to educating children despite the risks involved.
During the period of captivity, Alamu was reportedly forced by the kidnappers to feature in several video recordings used to communicate with the outside world and press their demands.
The pupils and teachers were eventually rescued after spending 56 days in captivity, bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty over their fate.
The abduction, which claimed the lives of some teachers and security personnel during the attack and rescue efforts, drew widespread condemnation and renewed calls for improved security around schools and rural communities.
Residents and stakeholders in Oriire Local Government Area commended Alli for the donation, describing it as a thoughtful gesture and a fitting recognition of the sacrifices made by teachers working in vulnerable communities.
They expressed hope that the intervention would inspire greater support for victims of insecurity and encourage more efforts to improve the welfare of teachers serving in high-risk areas.
