Global Education Leaders Hail Alausa’s Reforms Ahead of Tinubu’s Summit Role

Nigeria’s education reform agenda has received a boost on the global stage, with former President of Tanzania and Chairman of the Board of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), Dr. Jakaya Kikwete, commending the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to transform the sector.

The commendation came during a meeting with the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, ahead of the Global Education Summit scheduled for September, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Ikharo Attah.

Kikwete congratulated Alausa on the progress being recorded in Nigeria’s education sector, describing the reforms as evidence of the country’s commitment to improving learning outcomes and strengthening its education system.

“Minister, thank you for your time. Congratulations on the efforts you are making,” Kikwete said.

The former Tanzanian leader also expressed optimism ahead of the Global Education Summit, where President Bola Tinubu is expected to co-chair the high-level meeting alongside Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The summit is expected to mobilise greater international investment and deepen partnerships aimed at expanding access to quality education through the Global Partnership for Education.

As Chairman of the GPE Board, Kikwete also acknowledged Nigeria’s increasing influence within the global education body, noting that Alausa’s membership of the board reflects the country’s active role in shaping international education priorities and broadening access to quality learning for children.

Responding, Alausa thanked the former Tanzanian President for his contributions to education and leadership development across Africa and beyond.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for all your service to Africa, to the world, and to the children of the world for all the things you continue to do to support foundational education,” the minister said.

He also praised Kikwete’s sustained commitment to nurturing future leaders across the continent, describing his efforts as a source of inspiration for transformative leadership and sustainable development.

Alausa reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to advancing education reforms under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through stronger partnerships, increased investment and evidence-based policies designed to improve learning outcomes and expand access to quality education.

He assured that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue working closely with the Global Partnership for Education and other development partners to build an inclusive, resilient and future-ready education system capable of equipping Nigerian learners with the knowledge and skills required in the 21st century.
