Fire Engulfs Federal Mortgage Bank Headquarters in Abuja

A fire outbreak on Saturday razed parts of the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in Abuja, triggering an emergency response by firefighters battling to contain the blaze.

The incident reportedly began on the fourth floor of the building, located opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) headquarters, before spreading to the upper section of the structure.

Eyewitnesses said officials of the fire service promptly arrived at the scene and were seen making efforts to prevent the flames from consuming more parts of the building.

A Facebook user, identified as Praises Chukwu, who shared images of the incident online, said firefighters were working tirelessly to put out the fire.

“Mortgage Bank of Abuja, opposite CBN, currently on fire. The fire service team are putting up their best to take it out, but the fire seems to be spreading across the top floor of the building,” the post read.

Another eyewitness, Anthony Ameh, a staff member of Zenith Bank operating within the Mortgage Bank premises, also confirmed the severity of the incident, describing the fire as intense.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire had yet to be established, while there was no official confirmation of casualties or the extent of damage to the building.

Authorities had also not issued an official statement on the incident.
