Residents and businesses in parts of Abuja, including Asokoro, Garki 2, Lugbe and the Airport area, will experience electricity supply disruption this weekend as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out preventive maintenance on the Katampe/Apo 132kV transmission lines.

TCN, in a statement issued by its management on Friday, said the maintenance would take place on Saturday, August 15, and Sunday, August 16, 2026, between 9am and 5pm on both days.

The exercise will involve the replacement of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) on Towers T120, T131 and T132 along the Katampe/Apo transmission line route.

According to the company, the maintenance is part of routine preventive work aimed at improving the reliability and integrity of the transmission infrastructure serving the Federal Capital Territory.

TCN said the exercise would affect the ability of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to receive bulk electricity for onward distribution to customers in the affected areas.

Consequently, consumers in Asokoro, Garki 2, Lugbe, Airport, Barracks and surrounding communities are expected to experience interruptions in power supply during the maintenance period.

The company urged affected electricity consumers to bear with the temporary disruption, assuring that the work was necessary to maintain the transmission network.

“TCN apologises for the inconvenience this may cause electricity consumers in the affected areas,” the statement said.

The latest maintenance comes as TCN continues preventive and upgrade works on transmission infrastructure across the country, with the aim of improving network reliability and reducing avoidable faults.

The company said supply would be restored to the affected areas after the completion of the scheduled maintenance each day.
