Police Arrest Corps Member Over Alleged Rape of Six-Year-Old Girl

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 31-year-old National Youth Service Corps member, Godstime Onyenechara, over the alleged rape of a six-year-old girl in Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The development was contained in a statement on the operational successes of the Force across the country, signed on Saturday, September 5, 2026, by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, CSP Ani Iniedu.

According to the statement, police detectives commenced investigation after receiving a report of the alleged sexual abuse of the child on September 3.

Onyenechara, who serves with the NYSC at a school in the area, was subsequently arrested as detectives intensified efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police said the child underwent a medical examination at a government hospital, where doctors confirmed penetration.

The suspect remains in police custody while the State Criminal Investigation Department, Asaba, handles the investigation.

The Delta case formed part of a series of arrests and recoveries recorded by police operatives in different states during recent intelligence-led operations.

In Anambra State, detectives arrested five suspects in connection with the murder of Isaac Nwosu and three others in Awka, Awka South Local Government Area.

One of the suspects, Chukwuma Oputa, reportedly confessed to participating in an armed robbery operation at a Bet9ja shop, during which a victim was shot dead. Police also linked him to the subsequent killing of Nwosu.

Investigators recovered a pump-action rifle from Oputa, while information from his statement helped them track down four other suspected accomplices.

In Katsina, tactical teams foiled a kidnap operation at Kasuwar Mata Junction in Funtua Local Government Area after bandits invaded the area and abducted several residents.

The operatives engaged the attackers and forced them to retreat into the surrounding bush. They later conducted clearance and cordon operations that led to the rescue of five victims unharmed.

Police operatives in Rivers State similarly rescued a woman abducted from her shop along Alode Farm Road in Eleme Local Government Area.

The kidnappers abandoned the victim and fled into the bush after a gun battle with the police, who recovered two locally made pistols and one live round from an operational tricycle left behind by the gang.

In Nasarawa State, police arrested 11 suspected armed robbers, including two minors, after the suspects allegedly invaded Glory Guest House in Masaka, Karu Local Government Area.

The operation yielded a locally made revolver, six cutlasses, knives, eight SIM cards, scissors, suspected counterfeit foreign currencies and other valuables.

The police also rescued Favour Innocent from Nunku Forest in Akwanga Local Government Area after a joint operation involving police operatives, local hunters and community youths.

She received medical attention and was discharged before the team reunited her with her family.

In Borno State, detectives arrested Babagana Mustapha over the fatal shooting of Ali Gambo in Jere Local Government Area. Police also recovered the pump-action firearm allegedly used in the incident.

Another operation in Delta State led to the arrest of eight suspects at a suspected criminal hideout in Nut Junction, Abraka, following investigations into the attempted murder of Ikolomi Ewoma.

Three locally made pistols, Tramadol and other suspected illicit drugs were recovered during the raid.

Meanwhile, police in Bayelsa arrested two suspected cultists during a stop-and-search operation at Yenegwe Community, Yenagoa Local Government Area.

A locally fabricated revolver loaded with three rounds of 9mm live ammunition was recovered from one of the suspects.

In Akwa Ibom, four suspects were arrested during raids on suspected criminal hideouts at Ikot Abasi Idem and Ifa Atai villages in Uyo Local Government Area, with officers recovering large quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit drugs.

The Force said the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments are handling the cases.
