Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has predicted that Rotimi Amaechi will ask his supporters to boycott the 2027 presidential election in Rivers State.
Wike made the claim on Saturday at a grand reception held in his honour in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
According to the minister, Amaechi would make the call before 11am on election day after realising that he could not defeat the Rainbow Coalition in the state.
Wike said the former Rivers governor would struggle to secure enough support in the state to win the presidential contest.
“On election day, before 11am, Amaechi will tell his people to boycott the election because he knows there’s no way he’ll defeat us,” Wike said.
He also mocked Amaechi’s chances in his home area, saying victory there would not necessarily translate into success across the state.
“If he wins his village, Ubima, then he has won the election. That’s if he will win his own polling unit,” he said.
Wike also took aim at the security presence that accompanied Amaechi during previous political activities in Rivers State.
He accused the former minister of using large numbers of security personnel to intimidate residents during his political engagements.
“All of us are witnesses to it. He was coming like he was the Commander-in-Chief with a battalion of soldiers intimidating our people,” Wike said.
The FCT minister said the political situation had changed and claimed Amaechi would no longer enjoy the same level of security presence.
“No more battalions of soldiers to be with him, no more battalions of police to be with him. It’s now that we, the battalion of people, will come out,” he added.
Wike’s comments come as political parties and alliances intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
